MCI – On the Road to Being a Certified…

Midway Colleges further asserts its motto, “Experience Transformative Education” as it takes another leap forward to being a certified Microsoft Showcase School. As of this writing, MCI proudly has 61 of its faculty certified as Microsoft Innovative Educator (MEIs) and is actively using Microsoft in its Learning Management System (LMS).

All Midway students have Microsoft accounts and use Microsoft applications as part of their routine learning. This is integrated into the school’s LMS in response to flexible learning guidelines and in observance of health and safety protocols that calls for deferred face-to-face instruction. Midway’s LMS ensures learning despite the absence of traditional classroom activities and allows for interaction with fellow students through linkages inherent in the system.

Midway teachers are using Microsoft applications as well in carrying on with their duties. Online lectures coupled with engaging virtual activities, keeping track of attendance, submission of requirements, assessments, and even reaching out to students were all made possible through this smart deployment of technology. In this time of Covid19 when most former lectures and activities are replaced by virtual instruction, blended and hybrid learning becomes indispensable.

Technology is but one end of the equation. Students can experience continuity in their learning and gain valuable life skills through Microsoft technologies at the same time. Skills that students need in this century, like working with computer applications, collaboration and creative problem solving are made possible with linkages featured in the Microsoft Learning System. Teachers also enable the use of the technology in collaborative and creative activities apart from enriching the interaction among students.

Microsoft describes its Showcase Schools as those schools that incorporate “student-centered, immersive, and inclusive experiences that inspire lifelong learning, stimulating the development of essential future-ready skills so students are empowered to achieve more.” Midway reiterates this by empowering its teachers and students with knowledge and know-how of emerging technologies.

Teachercaster Episode 10 (College)

Recapitulated the highlights of activities and learnings during the pandemic time.

Teachercaster Ms. Marie Aliling recapitulated the highlights of activities and learnings of students during the 1st semester for the past 10 weeks of distance learning.

Videos of recent events were played as Ms. Aliling narrated the highlights of the activities. These include the collaboration of Senior High School and College departments in producing weekly updates for Teachercaster program, lesson preparation of teachers for the upcoming assessments of their students, and summary of teaching techniques for the subjects Social Sciences and Mathematics.

Midway Colleges have proven that distance is not a hindrance in delivering transformative education even with the ongoing battle against the pandemic.

This pandemic has led everyone to give importance to their health. With this, Physical Education teachers and Midway’s multi-awarded coach, Edwin Lobenia worked together to produce instructional videos on how to properly execute home workout exercises in an episode of Teachercaster.

The students of Midway are fortunate enough to be able to experience the use of technology through online learning. Students are not only using Microsoft 365 as a Learning Management System, but they have also been open to opportunities for learning with great ease, for the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) teachers are all equipped and ready to teach in a virtual learning environment. These expert teachers handled the lessons in depth.

Moreover, teachers ensure that students get a balance between their studies and non-academic related activities. Like in the recent acquaintance and TikTok challenge, these activities are proven to be engaging and fun for students.

In summary, Ms. Aliling thanked everyone who has been part of Teachercaster program for all the hard work they shared. She reminded the students to be DRIVEN in all their ways and said “Remember that in everything we do, we must always give our best and strive for excellence. God bless on your assessments.”

The storyline was written by Teachercaster Ms. Marie Aliling who is a program coordinator herself while Mr. Jestony Alvarez directed the episode.

Integrates the use of arts in teaching Mathematics

With a lack of early exposure to numbers and simple mathematics, students are left without opportunities to learn through differentiated instruction practices.  That is why Midway integrates the use of art in teaching Mathematics that can affect student’s understanding and retention of key concepts and vocabulary.

Senior High School Department of Midway Colleges integrates the use of arts in teaching Mathematics through different activities that use arts before the discussion to lighten and understand the concepts of each topic. It was also highlighted in the selected topic the use of Desmos graphing calculator which helps each student to see the illustration of the graph. It was also highlighting in their teaching-learning activities the conduct of a video tutorial about Pre – Calculus and General Mathematics among students.

Because of the crisis we are experiencing right now, Mathematics becomes much difficult to understand. Hence, in Midway, we think of ways that help our students to understand Mathematics concepts better.  Midway makes Mathematics interesting.
