Midway Colleges, a Centriport Authorized Testing Center (CATC)

Midway Colleges is dedicated to providing a high-quality education to its students and the community. Being the first Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC) in Nueva Ecija, the institution is consistent with this commitment as it will help prepare students and other test takers for the workforce by providing valuable credentials and access to certification exams for various technology products and tools, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, CISCO, and other application software and digital literacy programs, allowing individuals to improve their job prospects and opportunities.

To meet the requirements of the CATC program, Midway Colleges had to ensure that their hardware and software are up to date and are compatible with the testing environment. They also need to ensure that their staff members were certified and are qualified to provide support and assistance to the test takers. This includes providing testing candidates with an optimal experience that minimizes technical difficulties and maximizes their performance.

Moreover, to become a CATC, the institution must also adhere to strict testing security protocols. The test center must maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the test materials and the test-taker information. The staff must ensure that all test takers comply with the testing policies and procedures, including verifying their identity, and adhering to the test center’s code of conduct.

This partnership with Certiport by becoming an authorized testing center and by providing these resources, Midway Colleges is showing its dedication to meeting the highest standards of higher education and in ensuring that their students are well-equipped for success in the future.

A Real-life Situation Simulation for a Real-life Navigation Preparation

Last March 09-10, 2023, at the Midway Academics Building 1, the College of Maritime Education Department held its second phase of Developmental Training for the BSMT Faculty Member. “A Real-life Situation Simulation for a Real-life Navigation Preparation,” this has been the resonating slogan of the deck team as they braised themselves with the two days upskilling training on the use of our Mini-Bridge Poseidon Deck Simulator.

Regarded as a state-of-the-art system designed to train seafarers in the operation and maintenance of marine navigation equipment. The simulator is an essential tool for familiarizing and training our marine professionals and students to become proficiently ready in the competitive world of Seafaring, thus making them globally indomitable in the ever-changing modernization and technology.

The chief objective of the retraining program is to set the level of standards by enhancing the team’s knowledge and skills in the safe operation and maintenance of marine navigation equipment, with a particular focus on the use of Mini-Bridge Poseidon simulator. The training also aims to ensure the roster of our BSMT Faculty receives the best firsthand experience as they explore and discover various features of the innovative equipment.

The workshop Training started at first light of March 09, 2023, headed by the lead facilitator 2M Ferdinand Romero, an industry expert and seasoned trainer from Poseidon. He made a smooth run of equipment and software introduction. He then deliberately divided the discussion into three main topics: theory, simulator training, and practical assessment process.

The theory component covered the basic principles of marine navigation, including the use of radar, GPS, and other navigation equipment. The simulator training component involved the use of the Mini-Bridge Poseidon simulator to simulate different navigation scenarios and train the team members in the use of the simulator. Finally, the practical assessment training component involved the application of the knowledge and skills gained from the theory and simulator assessment training as to real-life scenarios.

On the second day, March 10, 2023, the team members had made a significant progress during the upskilling and training program. During the group sharing session they obtained a deeper understanding on the principles of marine navigation and the operation of navigation equipment. Unassisted, they became more assertive in navigating the Mini-Bridge Poseidon simulator. Also, they were able to manage complex assessment scenarios with ease. Furthermore, Deck instructors demonstrated their individual ability to operate and maintain marine navigation equipment effectively at various weather challenges set-up and conditions.

In a nutshell, the reequipping and rehabilitation training workshop of the Mini-Bridge Poseidon simulator was truly a remarkable success. The BSMT Team have acquired valuable tips, abundant information and have geared up the caliber of their interpretation of the equipment. This are indeed vital on delivering quality educations and training to our students for the proper utilization of the Mini-Bridge Poseidon simulator.

Once again, Midway have just proven its commitment and dedication for a promised of a transformative Education, not just for the students but for our faculty and staff. As an old saying goes, “Officers don’t create excuses, they create results.

Embracing Adversities with the New Normal: Midway Best Practices…

Finally, the long wait is over as Midway Colleges re-opens its door after nearly 3 years of challenging times brought on by the siege of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The arrays of posters, mementos, and health placards loudly stream and resonate the voice of the institution on its new theme “Be Driven, Be Transformative “. This a rock-solid statement of the Midway Family that wails for the comeback of appeasing and affirming educational and training experience for those student hopefuls.

With the opening of the Academic Year 2022 – 2023, the institution implements Phase II of the Midway Learning Continuity Plan – Blended Learning Modality following the Odd-Even Cyclical Framework.

The Odd and Even scheme follows the Week 1-15 Calendar wherein the students have a respective schedule for when to report on-campus and virtual classes. The College of Business and Institute of Technical Skills and Development will conduct the full face-to-face implementation of blended learning. On the other hand, the College of Maritime Education will have a schedule for the on-campus and virtual classes. The schedule will be based on the student’s year level which is in accordance with the odd-even numbers of the Academic Calendar.

Freshmen will report onsite during the odd numbers of the week which will fall during weeks 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15.

Moreover, sophomore and junior students will report onsite during the EVEN Numbers of the week which will be on Week 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14.

NOTE: Certain provisions may be applied if situations arise or in need of an additional schedule to report onsite for laboratory tasks and assessments.

The main goal of reopening the campus for its limited face-to-face laboratory instruction is to allow students to continue their learning journey and for students to satisfy their laboratory requirements before they are considered Completed Curriculum Instructions which soon join the rest in the industry workforce. Part of the minor goal is to similarly help bring normalcy as students lack the social face-to-face interaction that is needed for holistic transformation to persons of competence, conscience, and compassion.

Midway has always been rooting for Transformative Education, a kind that particularly focuses on adult education and young adult learning which makes us truly distinctively exceptional. And should there be any minor obstacles, we will help students and their parents. Long-term, we would like to see a healthy learning environment that uses both online and face-to-face learning (also known as hybrid instruction). Asynchronous online learning will be integral to the conventional Classroom set-up of a learning environment.

MCI High Flex learning is proven to be an effective way to acquire knowledge and skills because it often combines different ways of learning including writing, reading, discussion, presentations, projects, group work, film clips, demonstration, and practice. Students were able to concentrate harder on their learning because there’ll be fewer distractions than if they were at home at most times. They gain greater understanding, stories, and real-world examples from their instructors and other students both online – onsite arrangements at their most convenient time while having a better chance of completing their courses successfully by having it in a virtual or classroom setup. (Completion rate of teacher-led classes is almost 5x higher than that of online learning as the study shows)

Students’ positive feedback and results also reveal that they feel more comfortable and learn more easily in a familiar, traditional classroom situation during on-campus instruction. They access more information and richer understanding through instructors’ and other students’ body language and voice. A much bigger opportunity to connect with, problem-solve, and network with other students from a wide range of backgrounds.

Midway Colleges as approved by our Regulatory Bodies and Local Government Units has adopted a flexible blended approach with a limited in-person arrangement as it transitions its nearly fifteen hundred students back to full face-to-face classes by November — as a deadline set by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Passing across, Driven students are required to wear their masks and uniforms lined up for a temperature check and squirt of hand sanitizer as strict implementation of health and safety protocol inside the Campus.

To further promote health and safety awareness and improved sanitation scheme, contact tracing, and monitoring of student-employee status is being facilitated by the MCI Crowd and Crisis Department in cooperation with various departments and offices. It’s gonna be a safer, more engaging, and thriving Academic year for everyone! #ANGAT KA DRIVEN!

34th Founding Anniversary

In celebrating 34th Founding Anniversary, memorable experiences have come up better and become remarkable since this is a post-pandemic era. After a year’s gone through, hiding in our comfort zone, doing online learning and new normal things just to be safe and be a survivor of COVID-19, here we are getting up, standing strong and enthusiastic!

On September 23, 2022, all are excited to wake up early at 5’o clock in the morning to have the MIDWAY COLLEGES traditional AURORA MARCHthat starts at MIDWAY’S STAGE GROUND, all students from different departments participated. The students enjoyed walking again with their favorite advisers, classmates, and even faculty and staff too.

The committee conducted a re-activation, re-build, and re-organization of students’ clubs which enhance to be more participative individuals and practice DRIVEN values in their activities. The students flooded the stage ground and observing the bright and extravagant ability and talents of the competing students in various festival themes, which they were all thrilled till the contest ended.

Full Happiness may not be found within 24 hours but when it is a special day, you may find full happiness! Before celebrating the birthday of our beloved CEO, Sabino Czar C. Manglicmot, faculties and staff had their

THANKSGIVING MASS at the MIDWAY gymnasium, followed by the awarding of the Best employee’s that stayed for them for a half-decade.

He is a good man; he was impressed by the warm Birthday celebration done by the MCI family.

There are a lot of things to be changed in our surroundings but we must start first with ourselves in order to encourage others. Believing that a dream meets another dream and supports each other, they will not become a dream anymore; it will happen and come to reality. The only constant in life is changing and we must know our strengths and weakness to survive. We must know how to adjust to our surroundings in order to live longer. Life is important. Not all time, happiness would find you but you are the one who makes your happiness. In celebrating the birthday of the CEO, a lot of things were learned, including social life and how joyful starts and ends with family and friends.

Loud and proud after participating in this event, achieving the lesson, STRIVE HARD NO TO BE FAMOUS BUT TO BE A GOOD MAN IN FUTURE!
