UNITY RUN V9

The Unity Run v9, organized by Midway Office of Student Affairs, commenced on April 20, 2024 at Lakewood Cabanatuan City, with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle, demonstrate athletic prowess and fostering unity among students, faculty, and staff. Participants eagerly gathered at the assembly area at 0500H, brimming with excitement and enthusiasm for the Unity Run.

To ensure the safety and readiness of all participants, a dynamic warm-up session was conducted by our esteemed Physical Education instructors, Coach Edwin Lobenia and Coach Lyka-May Mercado. Their expertise and guidance proved invaluable as they led the crowd through a series of stretching exercises and aerobic movements. Participants warmed up, preparing their bodies and minds for the run ahead.

As the clock struck 0600H, signaling the official start of the Unity Run, the tension and anticipation reached its peak. With a resounding gunshot, echoing across the grounds, participants surged forward, their spirits ignited with determination and solidarity. Led by a convoy of volunteers and marshals, the sea of runners embarked on their journey, united in purpose and driven by a shared commitment to excellence. Under the canopy of the early morning sky, students, faculty, and staff alike traversed the designated route with fervor and resolve. 

In retrospect, the Unity Run stands not only as a testament to our collective strength and resilience but also as a reminder of the boundless possibilities that emerge when we come together as one. Beyond mere physical exertion, the event served as a testament to the power of unity and collaboration in overcoming challenges and reaching new heights. As we reflect on the memories created and lessons learned, let us carry forward the spirit of unity and cooperation, inspiring positive change and leaving an indelible mark on our community and beyond.

As the Unity Run drew to a close, culminating in a triumphant return to the starting point, a profound sense of achievement permeated the air. Participants, adorned with sweat and smiles, basked in the camaraderie forged through shared adversity and accomplishment. The winners of the Unity Run have been named for each respective programs where each has male and female winners.

Midway Colleges brings back Miss Goodwill; crowns new queen

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija—After a hiatus spanning several years, Midway Colleges Inc. (MCI) breathed new life into its prestigious pageant, culminating in the crowning of a new queen on April 26, 2024, at the ACM building. The event, themed “Journey of Goodwill: Bridging Hearts, Igniting Minds,” marked a vibrant celebration of diversity, fostering a profound sense of community and respect within the educational setting.

Melissa Cajucom, a pageant enthusiast, emerged victorious as Miss Goodwill 2024, surpassing 12 other candidates. Her stellar performance garnered multiple awards, including Best in Production, Best in Runway, Best in Casual Wear, Best in Summer Wear, Best in Long Gown, and titles such as Miss 7 Strokes Massage and Spa, Miss 3DD Medical Supplies Choice Award, Miss JEMS Production Choice Award, and Miss Body Beautiful.

Emerging Stars and Diverse Talents

Following closely, Chazy Andres, a dedicated student of MCI, secured the first runner-up title alongside the prestigious Miss Marino’s Choice award.

Zymyka Manglicmot claimed the second runner-up spot, earning recognition for Best in Talent, Miss Photogenic, Miss Rustica’s Choice Award, and Miss 7 Strokes Massage and Spa.

Rounding out the top five were Jasirine Mamaril, brought home Miss Creative Denim Attire, and Jezyre Chanehl Domdom, a finalist recognized for her remarkable presence pocketed Miss Ka-IWOG’s Choice Award.

The pageant also featured special awards, including the People’s Choice shared by Xyrel Glance Guanzon and Monica Lopez. Jadecyrill Dolor Labutong was honored as Miss Farm Villaronte Ambassadress, while Marla Joy Policarpio received the Miss DRIVEN Advocacy award, and Jhohana Jakalal was recognized with the Miss JEMS Production Choice Award. Additionally, Best Handler was also recognized during the coronation night.

Leading up to the coronation, the pre-pageant night showcased the contestants’ talents and creativity, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. The 13 participants captivated the audience with their performances, embodying the spirit of the event and affirming the institution’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity. The resurgence of Miss Goodwill at Midway Colleges Inc. was more than a mere revival; it was a triumphant celebration of elegance, talent, and the rich diversity that defines the institution. The event successfully bridged hearts and ignited minds, leaving a lasting impression on all participants and attendees alike.

Midway College Inc. Revs Up Enthusiasm with Midway Transport…

Midway Colleges Inc. proudly announces the triumphant return of a beloved tradition: Midway Transport Show! After its hiatus over the pandemic, the event roared back to life last April 19, 2024.  The Midway Transport Show transformed the campus into a haven for automotive appreciation. A diverse array of vehicles, from custom motorcycles to sleek sports cars, lined the open field. Each entry showcased a unique story of passion and craftsmanship, sparking lively conversations and igniting a shared love for automobiles within the DRIVEN community. 

Participants were separated into two categories, “Two Wheels” and “Four Wheels,” with them vying for the coveted People’s Choice Award alongside a variety of other awards sponsored by student organizations. The judging process, overseen by club advisors, ensured a fair and celebratory atmosphere, highlighting the rich tapestry of automotive culture within the DRIVEN community. Automobile companies also graced the event with their own exhibits, thus further enriching the event. Representatives engaged with students, offering valuable insights and addressing questions about all things automotive-related.  

We would like to thank ADZ Garage, Toyota Nueva Ecija, Honda Cars Nueva Ecija, MT-15 Nueva Ecija Club, Nissan Royce Cabanatuan, Kia Cabanatuan, Suzuki Cabanatuan, and Kawazaki Motorcycles – Cabanatuan for their participation as exhibitors for this event. The event was also attended by the Capinpin brothers, who each had their own entries for the 4-wheel category. 

This year’s Transport Show was organized by the Midway Student Council, in collaboration with Mx. Kimberly Manuel, a junior staff from the Executive Office.

Empowering Women: Midway Colleges Outreach Program at Tahanan ni…

In the heart of Mampulog, Bitas, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, amidst the whispers of rustling leaves and the gentle hum of nature, lies Tahanan ni Maria, a sanctuary for the innocent souls who have endured the harsh realities of life far too soon. Here, where the laughter of children should resonate, echoes the pain of the past, for Tahanan ni Maria has been a shelter for those children who have long fought their battles and survived.  

However, for those who are left in the shadow, Tahanan ni Maria will remain and always be painted as a lonesome place filled with individuals with dark and heartbreaking stories. Only those who allow themselves to be lost in the canvas will truly see that behind its wall and narrow entrance, hid not only a shelter but a home for brave and kind souls. Lucky enough, Midway Colleges Inc. (MCI) is one of the few privileged who has witnessed its beauty despite the thorns surrounding it.

Spearheaded by a dedicated team of volunteers, Midway Colleges organized an outreach program in Tahanan ni Maria not only to give them a spark of joy but also to instill a sense of pride to the young women of Maria. Aligned with the Women’s Month celebration, the program specifically aimed at empowering young girls who despite facing adversities stood resilient. 

Hosted by Mr. Alejandro De Leon and Ms. Marites Rosendo, the outreach program kicked off with an inspirational talk from the Academic Director, Dr. Richard L. Oandasan, whose words transcended mere speeches, reaching deep into the heart of the children. Through a heartfelt rendition of a song “Pananagutan” which conveys a message that “walang sinuman ang nabubuhay para sa sarili lamang” (no one lives for oneself alone), the director instilled in them the essence of communal living and the power of extending a helping hand.  

Breaking the barriers 

Following the talk, the atmosphere shifted to one of exuberance as the hosts led the children into a fun-filled dance. Energized by the upbeat music, the children, although hesitant at first, danced freely, with their laughers filling the air. The promise of prizes for outstanding performances added an extra layer of excitement, which motivated the children to showcase their dance skills and best moves.  

The dance activity allowed the volunteers to penetrate and break through the walls built by the children. This has founded an immediate connection between the two parties. As the dance progressed, it became evident that the children were not only enjoying themselves but also letting their guards down, opening them to the volunteers in ways previously unseen. Their laughter became more genuine, their movements more relaxed, and their interactions more spontaneous.  

Purgation of the emotions 

Yet, amidst the revelry, there was a poignant moment of reflection as the children engaged in an art session led by Ms. Miles O. Yee. From the beginning, it is evident how these children tried to conceal and repress their feelings. It is as if the walls the volunteers were able to crack was once again covered with patches. But as they delved into the art-making process, their pent-up emotions uncontrollably spilled onto the canvas, each stroke and color reflecting their inner turmoil and joys.  

One remarkable scene in this session was when one of the children drew a family portrait. The picture itself screams for her thirst for the warmth that a family provides. Notably, some of them also drew a picture with their friends. Whereas, despite not being related, they gave them the warmth of a family they all longed for. They found comfort, love, and security with the people they may not share the same blood with but share the same experience which served as a strong bond that links them to one another.  

Engaging young women of Maria to self-care 

After the heartfelt session, Ms. Lyca Mercado, an assistant gym instructor at MCI, led an engaging talk about taking care of one’s body in various aspects: physical, mental, and emotional. She also emphasized the importance of maintaining good posture for spinal health and overall well-being where she also encouraged the children to do some basic stretching exercises to improve posture and relieve muscle tension. Through her talk, she aspired that these children would learn how to take care of themselves as much as they take care of the things that are important for them. This generally highlights self-care and self-love which would help them improve their overall well-being.

The outreach program ended with a small feast, gift-giving, and courtesy of gratitude. Yet, despite the conclusion, the impact that these children left with the volunteers in just a single event will resonate beyond its duration. Their story will serve as a flame for the institution to redirect its purpose and aspire to reach more communities to empower.

DRIVEN TO LEARN FROM THE MASTERS: THE PTC MASTERCLASS…

DRIVEN Community welcome the Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc. (PTC) Masterclass Program to Midway Colleges, Inc. on February 8, 2024. This program is a unique opportunity for our students and faculty to learn from the experts and leaders of one of the leading crew management companies in the Philippines and the world.  

PTC is a global maritime professional company that provides a wide range of services, such as ship management, crew management, education and training, logistics, outsourcing solutions, and more. PTC has been in the industry for over 40 years, deploying over 35,000 Filipino seafarers onboard 700 vessels for 90 principals. PTC is also committed to social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and lifelong learning.  

The PTC Masterclass Program is a series of lectures, workshops, and simulations that aim to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies of our maritime students and faculty. The program will cover topics such as maritime safety, security, operations, leadership, innovation, and career development. The program will also showcase the latest technologies and best practices in the maritime industry.  

We are honored to have the following PTC team members as our guest speakers and facilitators for the program:  

Benjie Bautista, PTC Talent Acquisition Manager. He is responsible for the recruitment, selection, and placement of qualified and competent seafarers for PTC’s principals. He has over 20 years of experience in the maritime and human resources fields.  

Capt. Florencio Jampil, Business Development for Crewing and Shipmanagement. He oversees developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with existing and potential clients and the crewing and ship management operations of PTC. He is a seasoned master mariner with over 30 years of sea and shore experience.  

Capt. Ronald SJ Enrile, Senior Vice President for PTC Shipmanagement and Head of PTC Talent Acquisition Group. He is the top executive of PTC’s ship management division, which provides safe, secure, and efficient shipping solutions to its principals. He is also the head of PTC’s talent acquisition group, which encompasses the crew management, education and training, and outsourcing solutions of PTC. He is a distinguished master mariner with over 40 years of sea and shore experience.  

We are grateful to PTC for choosing Midway Colleges, Inc. as their partner institution for this program. We look forward to a fruitful and enjoyable learning experience with the PTC Masterclass Program. We hope that this program will inspire our students and faculty to pursue their maritime careers with excellence, passion, and integrity. A Journey Through Time and Joy: Our Christmas 4P’s…

In the heart of the holiday season, our workplace transformed into a festive haven, embracing the essence of Christmas with our unique theme: Christmas 4P’s – Remembering the past, embracing the present, and anticipating the future. Last year’s celebration was not just about decorations and festivities; it was a journey through time, tradition, and the magic of giving.

Our objective went beyond the surface-level celebration. It was about creating a tapestry of joy, weaving together the threads of PAGGUNITA (remembering the past), PAGKILALA (expressing cultural and religious traditions), PAGBIBIGAYAN (spreading happiness and practicing sharing/gift-giving), and PAGSASAMA-SAMA (promoting togetherness and fostering a sense of belonging).

Office Design Contest: “Blue and Ocean Hues: Endless Horizons”

Our offices underwent a transformation into serene landscapes of “Blue and Ocean Hues: Endless Horizons.” Pastel blues, teal, silver, and white converged to evoke the tranquil shores and infinite horizons of the sea. The design contest was not merely a competition; it was a collective effort to symbolize hope, new beginnings, and the anticipation of a brighter future.

Christmas TikTok Contest: “Cultural Christmas Tradition from Different Parts of the World”

Diving into the rich tapestry of global Christmas traditions, our TikTok Contest showcase the distinct customs, historical significance, and cultural heritage of diverse traditions. Each video was a window into a different part of the world, celebrating the uniqueness that made our global community so special.

Monito/Monita: A Magical Exchange

The tradition of Monito/Monita was more than a gift exchange; it was a magical journey of surprises and joy. Each person drew the name of their Secret Monito/Monita, setting the stage for a series of thoughtful gifts. From something nostalgic on December 11 to a practical gift on December 13 and a future-focused present on December 15, the joy of giving was celebrated through time.

Christmas Party: Healing our Inner Child

As we gathered on December 22, 2023, at the MCI Gym for our grand Christmas Party, the theme was set: “Healing our Inner Child: Wear your Cartoon Character.” It was a collective journey to look back on cherished memories, live in the present moment, and look forward to a brighter future. The invitation to wear favorite cartoon character attire was an invitation to reconnect with the joy and wonder of youth.

The excitement didn’t end with the celebration; our raffle prizes, generously sponsored by our partners and sponsors, added an extra layer of joy to our festivities. As we collectively embarked on this journey through time and joy, the spirit of Christmas wove us together into a tapestry of warmth, laughter, and shared memories. Here’s to a season of celebration, togetherness, and the magic that lay in remembering, embracing, and anticipating the joy that Christmas brought.

Midway Colleges Celebrates the Hour of Code: A Commitment…

Midway Colleges, in its commitment to providing transformative education, is hosting an exciting event, the Hour of Code, from December 5 to 11, 2023. This event is a testament to the school’s dedication to fostering a culture of innovation and technological literacy among its students. 

The event was inaugurated with an inspiring opening remark by the Admin Director, Mr. Jeffrey Boticario. He emphasized the significance of coding and computer science, not just in the field of IT but across various industry sectors. 

The event’s activities are facilitated by “The Association of Computer Technologies,” who are assisting students in participating in three main Hour of Code activities: AI for Ocean, Flappy Bird, and Outbreak Simulation. 

AI for Ocean 

The AI for Ocean activity is more than just an introduction to the concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It’s a gateway to understanding how future technology, like AI, can significantly enhance maritime operations, ensuring the safety and security of voyages. As future maritime professionals, students are shown how AI can aid in preserving our oceans, a critical aspect of global shipping routes. 

This activity serves as a practical demonstration of how coding can contribute to environmental conservation and maritime safety. It underscores the importance of the crew’s role in understanding the impact of their decisions, fostering critical thinking, and responsiveness. 

By engaging in this activity, students are not only learning about AI but also gaining insights into how their future roles in maritime operations can be transformed by technology. However, it also emphasizes that while technology can provide tools for safety and efficiency, the critical thinking and decision-making skills of the crew remain paramount. 

Flappy Bird 

The Flappy Bird activity is not just a game, but a creative platform that introduces students to the fascinating world of coding. It’s an interactive and enjoyable way to learn the basics of coding, demonstrating how even simple lines of code can bring a concept to life. 

While Flappy Bird may seem simple on the surface, it requires complex thinking and conceptualization. It’s a testament to how coding can transform a simple idea into an engaging and addictive game, highlighting the potential of coding in the entertainment industry. 

At Midway Colleges, we recognize the potential of our students to create their own games in the future. This activity serves as a steppingstone, inspiring them to explore the limitless possibilities of coding. It’s not just about playing a game; it’s about understanding the logic behind it, the creativity involved, and the potential to create something of their own. This is the transformative power of coding that we aim to instill in our students. 

Outbreak Simulation 

The Outbreak Simulation activity is more than just a coding exercise; it’s a vital learning tool that demonstrates how coding can help simulate and predict real-world scenarios, such as disease outbreaks. This activity underscores the role of computer science in healthcare and crisis management. 

In light of the recent pandemic, the importance of such simulations has been brought to the forefront. The ability to predict and mitigate outbreaks through data analysis and coding has proven to be a crucial aspect of global health strategies. 

This activity provides students with a hands-on experience of how coding can be used to analyze data, predict trends, and devise strategies to mitigate the impact of disease outbreaks. It’s a stark reminder of the lessons learned from the recent pandemic and the role that technology and coding can play in preventing future crises. 

By engaging in this activity, students are not only learning about the technical aspects of coding but also gaining insights into its practical applications in real-world scenarios. 

As part of the Hour of Code event, a special lecture was conducted by Mr. Franze Harvey Quinto for Senior High School students. This lecture was integrated into their Media and Information Literacy curriculum, marking the beginning of an innovative shift towards incorporating technology and digital literacy in the curriculum. 

Mr. Quinto highlighted the importance of AI and coding in the era of digitalization. He emphasized that these skills are not just optional extras, but essential tools for navigating the digital world. This aligns with the school’s previous implementation of Microsoft certification, further demonstrating Midway Colleges’ commitment to equipping students with relevant and up-to-date technological skills. 

This lecture signifies the start of a new chapter in Midway Colleges’ curriculum, one that embraces technology and innovation. It’s a step towards preparing students for a future where digital literacy is as fundamental as reading and writing. 

Participants who complete all activities will be recognized during the flag ceremony on December 11, 2023. By conducting this event, Midway Colleges is not only teaching students the technical skills of coding but also preparing them for the digital future, thus truly embodying the essence of transformative education.

Seatrade Maritime: Crew Connect Global

We are proud to announce that our own MR. SABINO CZAR C. MANGLICMOT II of Midway Colleges, Inc. participated in “The Round Table” at Seatrade Maritime Crew Connect Global 2023.

He represented our institution on a global platform and shared his insights on innovation, psychological support, disaster readiness, medical assistance, and academic requirements in maritime education. His contribution was invaluable for the global maritime discourse. The Round Table, an event associated with the Seatrade Maritime Club, was moderated by Raal Harris, Chief Creative Officer at Ocean Technologies Group, and inaugurated by Marcus Hand, the editor of Seatrade Maritime News1.

It brought together over 20 high-profile participants from various sectors of the maritime industry, including ship-owning, ship management, and industry governing bodies2. This Round Table is the latest in a series of successful discussions held at different locations around the world.

Established in 1999, Seatrade Maritime’s CrewConnect Global is a pivotal platform for the maritime industry to focus on its most crucial asset – its people3. It is a must-attend event for professionals involved in various aspects of crewing, such as manning, recruitment, onboard management, welfare, training, and administration4. It offers a comprehensive industry-led conference agenda, a diverse supplier Expo, and the highly anticipated CrewConnect Global Awards5. It keeps pace with the latest industry developments and serves the global crewing community.

MIDWAY PAILAW 2023

After the Halloween break, the much-anticipated Midway Pailaw took center stage. The Office of Student Affairs took charge of organizing this event, and with the assistance of DRIVEN students and employees, they successfully executed the elaborate preparations.

The theme for the Midway Pailaw 2023 was “Kantahan, Indakan sa Liwanag, at Aliwan Ngayong Pasko (KISLAP),” unlocking the creativity of each student to illuminate the surroundings.

Numerous days were dedicated to adorning the Midway Façade with giant Christmas lanterns, lights, and trees, creating a sparkling spectacle every night leading up to Christmas. The process of illuminating the Midway Façade and embellishing the pathways was enchanting and magical, filled with laughter as we completed the meticulous task—a fun and memorable experience to cherish.

Finally, November 24 arrived—the day of the Midway Pailaw. We marveled at the elaborate and fantastic human lanterns created by each department. It was surprising that, despite their demanding academic schedules, they managed to evoke a magical feeling as we paraded outside the campus, illuminating the pathway. The excitement of both students and employees was palpable as we progressed through the program. Witnessing their joy during this fun activity warmed our hearts, and we hope that the memories created will bring smiles to their faces whenever they reminisce about it.

Midway Paskuhan 2023: A Christmas Celebration” holds profound significance within the Midway community, acting as a unifying force that extends beyond the realms of entertainment. This annual event serves as a cornerstone in fostering a sense of belonging, pride, and shared identity among students, faculty, and parents alike.

The Christmas concert provides a platform of our diverse student body to come together and showcase their cultural richness. It also fostered camaraderie and community engagement.

In essence, “Midway Paskuhan 2023: A Christmas Celebration” is more than a mere concert; it is a tapestry woven with threads of cultural diversity, artistic expression, community engagement, values reinforcement, and cherished memories. It stands as a testament to the vibrant spirit that defines the Midway “DRIVEN’ community and contributes significantly to the overall educational experience provided by our institution.

Against the backdrop of our school’s iconic field, transformed into a small Christmas town filled with food and beverage stalls, the concert venue provided the perfect setting for the festive occasion. The open-air ambiance allowed the music to resonate freely, enveloping the audience in the coldness of the season.

Midway Paskuhan 2023 featured captivating performances by the Nirvanda band, ranging from lively renditions of OPM and foreign music. The concert program was carefully curated to evoke the spirit of Christmas, featuring timeless music, and modern classics. Highlights included a water party sponsored by the BFP.

The event exuded the festive ambiance of a traditional Filipino Christmas party, complete with a food bazaar encircling the field. The vibrant atmosphere was further heightened by a lively water party, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the attendees’ overall experience. The event was smoothly executed without any challenges.

In conclusion, Midway Paskuhan 2023 was a magical celebration set against the enchanting backdrop of our school’s iconic field transformed into a charming Christmas town. The talented performances by Nirvanda band, the thoughtfully curated program with timeless and modern classics, and the lively atmosphere, enhanced by the water party sponsored by the BFP, collectively created an unforgettable experience. The event successfully captured the essence of a traditional Filipino Christmas party, fostering joy and warmth in the hearts of all who attended.
