After a rigorous month, the candidates for CCI finally arrived at their most awaited day—the embarkation ceremony. The event began with an impressive arrival honors, where cadets and distinguished guests gathered to pay tribute to this momentous occasion. As the colors were presented, a palpable sense of pride and anticipation filled the air. The processional followed, with each participant walking in step, embodying the unity and commitment that defines our institution.

Once seated, the ceremony transitioned into a reflective invocation led by D/Cdt Briones. With a heartfelt appeal for guidance and strength, he set a respectful tone, reminding everyone of the values that underpin their journey of leadership and service. C/E Patricio V. Roque then delivered the welcome message, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the candidates. He emphasized the significance of this day as not only a celebration of achievement but also a pivotal moment in their lifelong journey

The atmosphere shifted to one of inspiration as the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sabino Czar C. Manglicmot II, delivered his motivational message. He reminded attendees of the resilience and determination needed to navigate the path of leadership, inspiring all to reach their ultimate potential. In a touching gesture, he encouraged the CCI Completers to express gratitude to those who supported them throughout their journey.

Following this, Dr. Richard L. Oandasan introduced the esteemed guest speaker, Capt. Fidel D. Ramos. Capt. Ramos addressed the audience with a compelling message, highlighting the importance of service, integrity, and courage in shaping the future of maritime endeavors. His insights into leadership responsibilities served to challenge and motivate the candidates, reinforcing the weight of their forthcoming roles in society.

The ceremony then moved to the formal presentation of candidates for completion rites. Each candidate stood proudly as their respective programs were called, reflecting on their journeys. This was followed by the confirmation of completers, marking a significant milestone in their training. With great pride, certificates of completion were presented to each completer, symbolizing their hard work and commitment. As they received their certificates, cheers erupted from family, friends, and faculty, creating an atmosphere of celebration.

In a heartfelt response, D/Cdt Sotillo spoke on behalf of the CCI completers class of 2024, expressing gratitude for the support of mentors and peers. He affirmed their commitment to carry forward the values instilled in them, ready to face the future with confidence.

The ceremony concluded with a lively recessional, as graduates and guests celebrated their achievements. The vibrant energy of the day echoed the spirit of hope and determination that each cadet would carry into their next chapter—a day of honor, reflection, and celebration, marking a pivotal moment in their lives

Content Creators Unite v1.0

The “Midway Content Creators Unite” event, hosted by Midway Colleges, took place on August 17, 2024, at the Center for Skills Advancement and Assessment (CSAA). This event was organized by the Midway Student Council with the help of School Organization and Student Volunteers, all institute aimed to bring together content creators from various platforms to share their experiences, showcase their talents, and foster a sense of community among participants.

The event kicked off with an inspiring opening ceremony where the organizers welcomed all participants and attendees. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation as everyone gathered to celebrate creativity and collaboration.

Throughout the day, several activities were held, covering a wide range of entertainment relevant to content creation. These games were led by experienced content creators and industry professionals who showed valuable participation and team work on improving content collaboration.

One of the most engaging parts of the event was the Campus Tour, participants had the opportunity to explore and learn from the history and present of Midway Colleges. The content creators enjoyed their adventure inside the campus by witnessing the advance simulators and systems that is available in Midway. It included their live vlogging, social interactions and collective brainstorming of ideas during the tour and made their interest be expressed with one another.

Networking Opportunities, the event provided ample opportunities for networking. Content creators from different niches and backgrounds connected, exchanged ideas, and formed potential collaborations. This networking aspect was highly appreciated by attendees, as it allowed them to build relationships and expand their professional networks.

Adding a friendly competition have been an edge to the event, several contests were organized. Participants competed in categories such as team-based competition until forwarding to the edge of the game categories such as cake making and hard candy scratching resulting to Ms. Jem Misuari’s triumph and were announced during the closing ceremony. Also, were awarded prizes and recognition for their outstanding work.

Well-known content creators and their presence added star power to the event and inspired many aspiring creators in attendance, boosting their fans during the live broadcast of Midway Colleges FB Page. In the last part of the event, the organizers issued a certificate of participation to the esteemed guest and provided them an umbrella sponsored by Vortex and bags from Midway Colleges Inc.

The “Midway Content Creators Unite” event was a resounding success. It not only provided a platform for content creators to showcase their talents but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration. The event highlighted the importance of creativity, innovation, and mutual support in the content creation industry. Participants left the event feeling motivated, inspired, and equipped with new skills and connections to further content creation journeys.

Buwan ng Wika

Ang pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika sa taong ito ay may temang, “Filipino: Wikang Mapagpalaya”. Ito rin ang nagsilbing basehan upang mabuo ang konsepto ng, “Banhaw” na ang ibig sabihin ay “buhaying muli”. Hangarin ng gawaing ito na buhaying muli ang paggamit ng wikang Filipino at mga katutubong wika sa nagbabagong mundo. Ito rin ang pinaghanguan ng departamento ng General Education sa pagbuo ng mga konsepto at mga aktibidad para sa nasabing gawain.

Mula rito ay nabuo ang mga aktibidad sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika na: HARAYA: Ang Paskil ng mga Imahinasyon (Digital Poster), DALISAY: Pagpapamalas ng Purong Kaanyuan at Busilak na Kagandahan (TikTok Video), PINTAKASI: Ang Pagbigkas ng mga Salita, Damdamin, at Paniniwala (FlipTop), PANAGYAMAN: Ang Galaw ng Kasalukuyan at Kasaysayan, KARILAGAN: Lakan at Lakambini sa Makabagong Panahon (Pageant), at SILAKBO: Ang Muling Pagdagundong ng Musika at Instrumento (Battle of the Bands). Ang mga aktibidad na ito ang bumuo sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika ng Midway Colleges, Inc.

Ang aktibidad na, “HARAYA: Ang Paskil ng mga Imahinasyon (Digital Poster)” ay ginanap noong nakaraang ika-9 ng Agosto taong kasalukuyan. Nilahukan ang ansabing aktibidad ng labing siyam (19) na mag-aaral mula sa mga departamento ng Marine Transportation, Marine Engineering, at College of Business. Ang tema ng digital poster na kanilang nilikha ay ang mismong tema ng buwan ng wika para sa taon na ito na, “Filipino: Wikang Mapagpalaya”. Noong nakaraang ika-16 ng Agosto taong kasalukuyan ay inanunsyo ang mga nagwagi sa patimpalak na ito kung saan hinirang si, Kurt Austin Panganiban mula sa departamento ng Marine Transportation bilang ikatlong karangalan, Janelle Moises mula sa department ng Pangangalakal bilang ikalawang karangalan, at Lea Mae Torres mula rin sa departamento ng pangangalakal bilang bilang unang karangalan.

Ang patimapalak naman na, DALISAY: Pagpapamalas ng Purong Kaanyuan at Busilak na Kagandahan (TikTok Video) ay hango naman sa viral na konsepto ng, Piliin mo ang Pilipinas kaugnay ng DRIVEN VALUES ng ating institusyon. Nilahukan ito nina: Jarius Padilla mula sa departamento ng Marine Transportation, Rajaya Robles mula sa departamento ng Cruise Ship Hotel and Restaurant Services (CSHRS), Precious Dionisio, Yvan Angelie Tan, at Sydney Nhicole Ayson mula lahat sa departmento ng Pangangalakal. Bawat isa ay nagpamalas ng angking talento at pagiging malikhain sa patimpalak na ito ngunit sa huli ay hinirang si Precious Dionisio bilang ikatlong karangalan, Yvan Angelie Tan bilang ikalawang karangalan, at Sydney Nhicole Ayson bilang unang karangalan. Isinagawa ang pagpaparangal sa mga nanalo noong ika-16 ng Agosto taong kasalukuyan.

Isa sa mga bagong patimpalak ng buwan ng wika para sa taon na ito ay ang, “PINTAKASI: Ang Pagbigkas ng mga Salita, Damdamin, at Paniniwala (FlipTop)”. Nilahukan ang nasabing patimpalak ng tatlong kalahok. John Christopher Labrador at Green Bell Florida kapwa mula sa departamento ng Pangangalakal at Sioubvanne Jas Santiago mula sa departamento ng Marine Engineering. Sa una ay nagtapat sina G. Labrador at G. Santiago sa paksang pagpili sa mga magiging lider ng ating bansa. Nagwagi si G. Santiago rito at hinarap si G. Labrador para sa huling laban. Dito ay pinagusapan nila ang paksa kung paanong mas patuloy pang bubuhayin ang wikang Filipino sa mundo ng edukasyon. Naging mainit ang laban ngunit sa huli ay hinirang na kampeon ng FlipTop si G. Sioubvanne Jas Santiago mula sa departamento ng Marine Engineering noong ika-16 ng Agosto taong kasalukuyan, Naidagdag din sa mga patimpalak sa Buwan ng Wika ang, “PANAGYAMAN: Ang Galaw ng Kasalukuyan at Kasaysayan”. Nakilahok ang bawat departamento sa patimpalak na ito na ginanap noong ika-16 ng Agosto taong kasalukuyan. Itinanghal ng departamento ng high school ang sayaw na, Kappa Malong. Banga naman ang itinanghal ng departamento ng Pangangalakal. Sa kabilang banda ay naghanda naman ang departamento ng CSHRS sa kanilang pagtatanghal ng sayaw na

Manmanok. Bumayah Uyuay sa bahagi ng Marine Engineering at sayaw na Tarektek sa departamento ng Marine Transportation. Ang bawat isa ay naghanda sa kanilang pagtatanghal bitbit ang kani-kanilang mga konsepto hinggil sa mga sayaw na napunta sa kanila. Sa huli ay itinanghal na ikatlong karangalan ang departmento ng High school, ikalawang karangalan ang departamento ng CSHRS at parehas naman nasungkit ng departamento ng Pangangalakal at departamento ng Marine Transportation ang unang karangalan. Muli namang isinagawa ng departamento ng General Education ang patimpalak na, “KARILAGAN: Lakan at Lakambini sa Makabagong Panahon (Pageant)”.

Nilahukan ito ng limang pares mula sa limang departamento ng Midway Colleges, Inc. na sina: Alessandra Pajarit, Princess Diane Balazo, at Lawrence Mayor mula sa departamento ng Marine Tranposrtation. Mariane Gonzales at Claus Padre mula sa departamento ng Pangangalakal. Mariel Rena at Lawrence Ayson mula sa departamento ng CSHRS.

Bea Gonzales at Lei Ezekiel Apuntar mula sa departamento ng High school at John Benedict Dimaano mula sa departamento ng Marine Engineering. Nahati sa tatlong bahagi ang nasabing patimpalak, ang production number, ang malikhaing kasuotan, at ang tanungan. Sa bahagi ng production number ay nagpamalas ang mga kalahok ng husay sa pagsasayaw suot-suot ang mga kasuotang gawa sa telang ibinigay sa kanila ng departamento. Itinanghal sina Lei Ezekiel Apuntar at Mariane Gonzales bilang Best in Production. Sa bahagi naman ng malikhaing kasuotan ay ipinamalas nila ang kanilang husay sa pagdadala ng mga damit na ginawa mismo ng kani-kanilang mga departamento, gawa ang mga ito sa mga recyclable materials. Itinanghal naman sina Bien Ayson at Princess Diane Balazo bilang Best in Creative Costume. Hinirang naman bilang Best in Advocacy at People’s Choice Award sina Lawrence Mayor at Princess Diane Balazo.

Sa bahagi naman ng tanungan ay ipinamalas ng mga kalahok ang
kanilang husay sa pagsagot ng mga katanungang may kinalaman sa buwan ng wikang pambansa. Sa huli, itinanghal sina Bien Ayson at Princess Diane Balazo bilang 2nd runner up, Lawrence Mayor at Mariane Gonzales bilang 1st runner up, at Ginoo at Binibining Karilagan 2024 sina Bea Mae Gonzales at Lei Ezekiel Apuntar na pawang nagmula sa departamento ng High school.

Ang huling patimpalak ng Buwan ng Wika ay ang, “SILAKBO: Ang Muling
Pagdagundong ng Musika at Instrumento (Battle of the Bands). Isinagawa ito noong ika 17 ng Agosto taong kasalukuyan sa open ground ng Midway Colleges, Inc. Sa patimpalak na ito ay kinakailangang makapagtanghal ng dalawang (2) orihinal na musikang Pilipino at ang opsiyal na kantang bibigyan ng iba’t ibang bersyon, ang “Alapaap”. Nilahukan ito ng walong (banda) mula sa iba’t ibang departmento.

Ang mga lumahok na banda ay ang mga sumusunod: Ecclesiandra, The Tempest, Padayon, CNTRL X, Aduana Anchor, Caramat & Friends, Bandaritas, at The Buoys. Bawat isa ay naghanda sa nasabing patimpalak ngunit sa huli ay itinanghal na 2nd runner up ang
bandang Bandaritas, 1st runner up ang bandang The Buoys, at Caramat & Friends bilang kampeon ng Battle of the Bands 2024. Tunay na makasaysayan ang pagdiriwang ng buwan ng wikang Pambansa para sa
taon na ito. Sa kabila ng iba’t ibang suliranin ay patuloy pa rin itong naitaguyod tulad ng pagtindig natin sa wikang Filipino. Nawa’y patuloy nating hirangin ang wikang Filipino kahit pa sa nagbabagong mundo.

Expo Maritime Philippines Cruise Travel Tourism and Maritime Careers Convention.

This prestigious event, organized by the Worldwide Maritime Operations Company (WMOC), provided a platform to showcase the vast potential of the Philippines’ maritime industry and the exciting career paths it offers.

The Midway College booth buzzed with activity as students eager to explore maritime careers stopped by. Apart from the informative brochures detailing academic programs, a fun spin-the-wheel game with exciting giveaways added an interactive touch to the booth, which helped create interest in Midway Colleges’ transformative education experience.

Beyond student engagement, the Expo proved to be a valuable networking opportunity. Representatives from leading maritime agencies like Meijing Mining Company and Fastcat visited the booth, sparking discussions about potential employment opportunities for Midway graduates and emphasizing the practical applications of transformative education. This connection fosters a strong bridge between education and industry, ensuring students are well-equipped for success.

The spirit of collaboration extended to educational institutions as well. Representatives from TESDA and Southville expressed interest in partnering with Midway College to further the impact of transformative education, fostering a collaborative environment that strengthens maritime education in the Philippines.

Midway College student Karl Rueda Himantog took center stage, impressing attendees with his in-depth knowledge of Collision Regulations and Rules of the Road, a testament to the transformative education he has received. He actively participated in a Q&A session on his aspirations as a seaman, showcasing the caliber of talent nurtured by the college. Mr. Himantog, along with Yvan Angeline Tan, further exemplified teamwork by winning a prize in another engaging activity, demonstrating the importance of collaboration within the maritime field.

Midway Colleges, Inc., dedication to academic excellence, played an active role in the esteemed EduData 2024 summit, organized by QS Quacquarelli Symonds Limited and hosted by the American University of the Middle East. Centered on the theme ‘AI and Digitally Empowered Education,’ the summit was held at Capital Turnaround, Washington, D.C., from June 5-6, 2024. Embracing modern conveniences, this year’s summit adopted a hybrid approach, welcoming attendees both on-site and online.

EduData Summit served as a global forum where data-driven educators, platform strategists, data scientists, CIOs, and other experts converged to share best practices at the intersection of big data, predictive analytics, learning analytics, and education. The hybrid setup facilitated seamless collaboration among participants, whether they were physically present or joining remotely.

Our Data Protection Officer, Edmar R. Dizon, participated in a panel discussion. He delved into the digital transformation partnerships among MHEIs in the Philippines.

The Midway Student Council embarked on a transformative journey with the DRIVEN Leadership Bootcamp, a collaborative initiative between the Midway Executive Office and the Office of Student Affairs (OSA). Held from May 29-31, 2024, the program aimed to equip the student leaders with the skills and mindset necessary to become active agents in fostering a vibrant campus culture with a highly engaged student body.

Midway College’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sabino Czar C. Manglicmot II, kicked off the bootcamp with an inspirational opening remark. This was followed by a leadership seminar by Midway alumnus D/C Roland Legaspi. OSA Head Robie Mar A. Dayto then led post-lecture activities to encourage the Midway SC to ponder about the values and skills discussed to them in the lecture. In the afternoon, Dr. Richard Oandasan’s interactive session on communication and collaboration skills complemented these core principles of leadership, prompting participants to analyze scenarios and strategize solutions.

Day two focused on project management. Mr. John Christian Mendoza delivered a comprehensive lecture on the fundamentals, followed by a collaborative task where the student council applied their learnings. Under the guidance of Sir Dayto, the Midway Student Council then crafted their own Playbooks, outlining project goals, strategies, and implementation plans. Midway QAO Ma. Luisa Belen Ascue, together with Sir Dayto, provided valuable feedback and suggestions for refinement. The bootcamp culminated in a unique team-building experience – The Amazing Race, facilitated by Mx. Kimberly Manuel from the Executive Office and Ms. Mica Tabora from the Guidance Services Unit. Divided into two teams, the Midway Student Council had navigated through various challenges designed to test their problem-solving, resourcefulness, and teamwork. Each activity offered insights into leadership styles, communication, and the importance of adaptability.

Ms. Mica Angela Tabora of the OSA facilitated a leadership bingo activity, prompting self-reflection and peer recognition of leadership traits. This was followed by a heartfelt “Sharing by Thread” session where the SC engaged in open communication and shared not only their aspirations for the council and the school, but also the challenges that they have faced throughout their term. The day concluded with a moving recollection activity that encouraged them to prioritize and reflect on their leadership roles.

The DRIVEN Leadership Bootcamp provided the Midway Student Council with a valuable opportunity to develop their skills and build a strong foundation for their leadership journey. The collaborative effort between the Executive Office and OSA serves as a model for future initiatives aimed at empowering student leaders and fostering a vibrant campus community.

The Quality and Strategic Services Unit, formerly known as the Quality Assurance Office, plays a pivotal role in promoting institutional excellence, continuous improvement, and sustainable growth. As part of the Executive Office, this unit strategically plans the institution’s innovation, secures resources, ensures compliance with accreditation standards, and champions data-informed decision-making.

Recent initiatives include the Management System on Educational Management System

(EOMS), where top and middle management participated in the lead implementation of EOMS. Additionally, a Risk Management Training session engaged teaching and non-teaching staff, facilitated by the Junior Executive Staff (Kimberly Manuel and Jervy Cauzon) from the Quality and Strategic Services Unit, with Ms. Ma. Luisa Bellen Ascue, the Quality Assurance Officer, is leading the way. Furthermore, a Knowledge Management Training session for department and office heads was conducted, led by Mr. Edmar R. Dizon, the Data Protection Officer, assisted by Junior Executive Staff (John David Mabagos)

These endeavors align with the institution’s objectives, emphasizing the enhancement of the quality management system through rigorous research and the adoption of a data-driven, evidence-based approach to decision-making. 172 MCI Students to take MSAP Exam in person

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — A total of 172 MCI third year students participated in the Maritime Schools Assessment Program of the Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council, Inc. (PJMCC), which is being held in person for the first time since 2017. The examination took place nationwide on May 17, 2024, at Academic Building 1, Midway Colleges Inc.

The examinees included 125 Deck (Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation) and 47 Engine (Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering) students.

According to PJMCC, approximately 6,000 examinees from 45 Maritime Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs) across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao participated in the MSAP. The examination includes three components: Achievement, Aptitude, and Technical tests.

OPPORTUNITY FOR FUTURE SEAFARER

This initiative is designed to assist MHEIs in identifying qualified deck and engine cadets. By utilizing MSAP results, MHEIs can evaluate the academic performance of sponsored cadets, aiding in the maintenance of scholarships and facilitating internal benchmarking, as stated by PJMCC.

As per our record, during the last 2017 MSAP Examination there are 12 Deck and 10 Engine students passed from MCI, respectively.

The MSAP, started by PJMCC in 2007 for BS Marine Transportation and BS Marine Engineering students, was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19 and has resumed after four (4) years.

ONE-TIME EXPERIENCE

Two (2) of the 172 students shared their experiences and preparations for the MSAP examination.

Midshipwoman Krizha Anne Marie D. Sotillo, a BSMT student, focused on the technical part of the examination. “It will determine if I have enough knowledge and if what I learned from our program is sufficient. I recalled our topics from the first year until now and tried to assess the possible topics that might appear in the examination. Thankfully, everything I studied came up.”

Midshipman John Mark B. Santiago, a BSMarE student, expressed anxiety but doubled his usual preparation routine before the examination. “I had a different preparation aside from the review provided by our school. I needed to be confident before taking the exam, and we had to be prepared not only physically and emotionally but spiritually as well. Aside from knowledge, we also need guidance from Him.”

Both students, excelling in their respective programs, emphasized the importance of keeping their well-being stable as it became significant in preparation for this kind of examination.

DESPITE THE STRUGGLES

Known in their respective classes as bright students, they also faced hardships during the examination.

Midshipman J.M. Santiago mentioned his struggle with mathematics, “Definitely with mathematics, it’s really hard to memorize all the formulas from our years as students. Who wouldn’t find math difficult, right?”

Midshipwoman K.A.M. Sotillo shared a similar sentiment, highlighting the challenge of memorizing formulas and the uncertainty of which ones would be useful in the test.

Overall, they demonstrated bravery and dedication in striving to excel in the examination.

DO’S and DON’T

As they wait for the results, they shared some tips based on their experience:

First, never forget what your instructors taught you in the classroom. If possible, jot down any relevant information in a big notebook to consolidate information by topic. This notebook will serve as a reference to refresh your memory of what you’ve learned.

(MCI) conducted an 8-day In-Service Training for their faculty members this Academic Year 2023-2024 last May 8-10 and 13-17 at Center for Skills Advancement and Assessment (CSAA).

The in-service training commenced on May 8, 2024, anchored with the theme: Strengthening Outcomes-based Assessment. The program began with an inspirational message from Mr. Sabino Czar Cloma Manglicmot II, the Chief Executive Officer of Midway Colleges, Inc. His speech underscored the importance of continuous improvement in instructional delivery and the crucial role of faculty in achieving educational excellence.

Following the inspirational message, Ms. Ma. Cristina Arcibal, the OIC – Program Chair of General Education Department (GenED), presented institutional updates on Program EnHANCE and Project Take-a-MOOCment!, emphasizing the integration of MOOCs to enhance curriculum delivery. Ms. Jessa Amor Necesito, OIC – Program Chair of College of Business (COB), introduced Project TECH-talk, aimed at leveraging technology to facilitate learning. Ms. Janice Palacio, OIC – Program Chair of Institute of Technical Skills and Development (ITSD), discussed Project CReAM, focusing on creating relevant and engaging co- and extracurricular activities.

In the afternoon, Mr. Robie Mar Dayto, Head of the Office of Student Affairs, shared insights into recent student milestones. This session highlighted the achievements of students.

The second day arrived; it was scheduled for a fruitful discussion, Dr. Richard L. Oandasan, the Academic Director, led a comprehensive lecture-workshop on strengthening outcomes-based assessment. He emphasized the need for assessments that accurately measure student learning outcomes and align with the institution’s educational objectives.
