On May 2, 2024, Midway Colleges embarked on an exciting educational field trip to explore various museums and cultural sites in Metro Manila. The trip aimed to provide students with a hands-on learning experience and broaden their knowledge beyond the confines of the classroom.

THE MIND MUSEUM

The next itinerary is the Mind Museum, a popular science museum that offered a wide range of interactive exhibits and educational programs. The students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiments, explore the wonders of the universe, and learn about the latest advancements in technology and innovation. It was a truly enriching experience that sparked their curiosity and fostered a love for science. The Mind Museum is a prestigious science museum located in Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines. It is situated within the J. Y. Campos Park in Bonifacio Global City and is recognized as the first science museum in Asia. The museum covers an area of 1.2 hectares (3.0 acres) and is renowned for its commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness. Its design and content are a fusion of high-tech elements and hands-on learning experiences. This unique combination creates an immersive and captivating environment for visitors. The exhibits at the Mind Museum aim to inspire curiosity, promote scientific literacy, and highlight the talent of Filipinos on a global scale.

 

MUSEO EL DEPOSITO

Another destination was the El Deposito. Deep beneath the Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine in San Juan City lies a hidden treasure – the cavernous El Deposito.  Constructed using volcanic tuff, this underground reservoir played a crucial role in supplying water to the city of Manila. Built as part of the Carriedo waterworks project,  which spanned from 1878 to 1882, it stands as a testament to the ingenuity of Spanish engineer Genaro Palacios. This narrative report delves into the fascinating history of El Deposito and the Carriedo waterworks, highlighting its various uses throughout the years and its significance as a national shrine

Chapter 1: Life before the Waterworks

In this chapter, we transport ourselves back in time to explore the challenging conditions faced by Manila’s residents prior to the implementation of the Carriedo waterworks. We delve into the scarcity of clean water, the reliance on natural sources, and the adverse impact it had on the city’s development and public health. Here, we focus on the commemorative aspect of El Deposito as the site of the national shrine dedicated to the brave Filipinos who fought during the Battle of San Juan del Monte in 1896. Here, we unveil the remarkable engineering feat accomplished by Genaro Palacios and his team. Detailed explanations and illustrations guide us through the construction of the Carriedo waterworks, highlighting the innovative techniques employed to overcome the geological challenges posed by the volcanic tuff. We also explore the intricate network of pipes, fountains, and hydrants that were established to distribute water throughout Manila, transforming the city’s landscape and improving the quality of life for its inhabitants. 

Chapter 3: The Transformative Role of El Deposito

In this chapter, we uncover the diverse roles played by El Deposito throughout history. From serving as an armory during American and Japanese rule to its conversion into a hospital for tuberculosis patients, we witness its adaptive nature and its significance in times of conflict and crisis. Additionally, we delve into its use as a firing range, shedding light on the military presence in the area. THE PRESIDENTIAL CARS

The Presidential Car Museum, also known as the “Museo ng Pampangulong Sasakyan”, located within the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines, holds significant relevance as a repository of historical artifacts that showcase the cars used by former Philippine Presidents. This museum serves as a valuable resource for visitors to delve into the nation’s history and gain insights into the lives of past leaders through the preservation and exhibition of these iconic vehicles. The museum’s collection of meticulously restored presidential and historic cars provides a tangible connection to the country’s political heritage. It allows visitors to trace the journey of the Philippines through different eras by examining the evolution of presidential transportation. From the carriages of Emilio Aguinaldo to the modern vehicles of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, each car represents a chapter in the nation’s history. Moreover, the Presidential Car Museum attracts a wide range of visitors, including both locals and tourists, with an average daily footfall of 800 to 1,200 individuals. The museum’s layout, featuring eight dividers symbolizing the eight rays of the sun on the Philippine flag, adds a cultural and patriotic dimension to the overall experience. It serves as an educational destination for students on field trips, offering them a unique opportunity to learn about Philippine presidential history in a tangible and engaging manner. Managed by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the Presidential Car Museum stands as the largest repository of state cars in the country. The Quezon City Museum, also known the Quezon City Experience Museum, is a captivating destination that takes visitors on a journey through the vibrant history and culture of Quezon City. Nestled within the iconic Quezon Memorial Circle in Metro Manila, Philippines, this interactive museum offers a unique and immersive experience that celebrates the city’s past, present, and future.  Upon stepping foot into the museum, visitors are greeted with a stunning display of life-size exhibits and virtual displays that bring Quezon City’s story to life. From the early days of its establishment as the new capital of the Philippines to its growth into a bustling metropolis, the museum showcases the city’s evolution through engaging multimedia presentations and interactive installations.
